Program overview


Manulife Vitality is a program that rewards you for living a healthier life, offered through a partnership between Manulife and The Vitality Group™, a global leader in interactive, personalized wellness programs. With Manulife Vitality, the healthier your lifestyle, the more you can earn and the greater your potential rewards.


Manulife Vitality is a journey to better health. The more activities you do, the higher your Vitality Status™ gets. You begin your journey at Bronze Vitality Status™ and can work your way up to Platinum to earn rewards and premium savings.


You can start earning points by taking the Vitality Health Review™, an online questionnaire about your current health and lifestyle. You get 500 Vitality Points™ for completing the Vitality Health Review™, plus a bonus of 1,500 Vitality Points™ when you complete it within 90 days of signing up for the Manulife Vitality program.


Based on your answers, Manulife Vitality will calculate your Vitality Age™ and provide suggestions on how you can maintain or improve your health.


The Vitality Group™ is the company that created the Manulife Vitality program, the world’s leading science-based behavioural-change program that encourages and rewards you for leading a healthier lifestyle.


Joining and participating in the program can help impact your health habits, your health risks and, ultimately, your life expectancy. The program gives you tools and support to achieve your health goals, all while earning rewards and premium savings.


Manulife Vitality is a completely voluntary program that costs $5 per month. Choosing not to join will not in any way affect your Flexcare or FollowMe health and dental insurance benefits, how much you pay for coverage, or how much you get for your claims.


There are many ways to earn Vitality Points™ that don’t depend on fitness trackers, including health assessments, the Vitality Check™ and the non-smoking declaration. You can earn Vitality Points™ for getting a flu shot, too.

You can also use an activity tracking app on your phone. If you keep your phone with you most of the time, tracking apps can count the steps you take in a day. You can get points and rewards if you reach your weekly goal.

To access more opportunities to earn points, remember that joining the Manulife Vitality program allows you to get a Garmin vívofit® 4 at no cost.

Eligibility and membership


Only the primary applicant is eligible to sign up and participate in the Manulife Vitality program. You must be at least 18 years old.


No. At this time, only the primary applicant is eligible for the program. However, the spouse and co-applicant are eligible for premium savings based on the primary applicant’s Vitality Status™.


If you leave the plan, your Manulife Vitality program membership ends 30 days after your health and dental insurance ends.


You will continue to have one Manulife Vitality program membership. We will use your existing Vitality Status™ to calculate your premium savings for your health and dental insurance.

Vitality Points™


You earn Vitality Points™ when you do activities that help you learn more about and improve your health. In the Manulife Vitality app, scroll through the sections under “Know your health” and “Improve your health” to view all the activities that earn points. On the My Manulife Vitality website, you can find even more information about these activities.


Here are just a few of the activities that earn Vitality Points™:

  • Completing your Vitality Health Review™ within 90 days of program registration
  • Submitting health screening results (Vitality Check™) with ExamOne®
  • Completing the Mental Well-being Review
  • Syncing a wellness device or app to earn workouts for your verified physical activity
  • Participating in organized athletic events
  • Submitting a verified non-smoker declaration in the first program year

You receive Vitality Points™ when you track your physical activity. To do this, you must have a fitness device or fitness app that can connect with the Manulife Vitality app. Visit the “Manage devices and apps” section in the app for more information on our device and app partners.


Find your Vitality Points™ in the “Points” section of the Manulife Vitality app. Vitality Points™ are updated within 24 to 48 hours.


There are three types of physical activity workouts in the program, with Vitality Points™ awarded based on number of steps and/or heart rate duration: Light (10 Vitality Points™), Standard (20 Vitality Points™) and Advanced (30 Vitality Points™).

Only one physical activity workout each day receives Vitality Points™. The program captures the activity that earns the highest number of points.


Our goal is to help you improve your overall health, not just one or two aspects of it. Limiting the number of Vitality Points™ you can earn in the physical activity category to 6,000 each program year encourages you to explore the other areas of the program. If you have earned the maximum in the physical activity category, you can earn points again in your next program year.

Keep in mind that limits for physical activity points only apply to your annual Vitality Status™ – not to your weekly Vitality Active Rewards™. This means that your standard and advanced physical activity workouts will count towards reaching your weekly Vitality Active Rewards™ targets, whether or not you have reached 6,000 physical activity points.


Yes, The Vitality Group™ (which administers the Manulife Vitality program) checks the accuracy of information you send so we can make sure the program stays fair for everyone.


Incorrect or incomplete information will result in the denial or cancellation of Vitality Points™ and, potentially, the termination of membership according to the terms and conditions of the program. Visit the My Manulife Vitality website  for more information.

Vitality Status™


Vitality Status™ tracks your progress as you incorporate into your life a range of activities that contribute to improving health and fitness. You can increase your Vitality Status™ level by earning points for being active and completing health assessments.

You start with a Bronze Vitality Status™. As you earn points, your Vitality Status™ can move from Bronze to Silver to Gold and, ultimately, to Platinum.

We use your Vitality Status™ to calculate your premium savings for your next policy anniversary year.

You can find your Vitality Status™ at the top of the app home screen or on the My Manulife Vitality website. The higher your Vitality Status™, the greater your rewards and premium savings will be.


You keep your Vitality Status™ from the moment you achieved that level until the end of your current program year, and then carry that same Vitality Status™ over for another full program year. Note that the first program year lasts nine months. The following program years last 12 months.

Your Vitality Status™ is tied to the number of Vitality Points™ you earned in the current program year. In addition, 10% of the Vitality Points™ you earned in the current program year roll over to your next program year. You will need to complete different activities to start earning points again.


A Manulife Vitality program year is the amount of time you have to earn points and reach a higher Vitality Status™ before starting a new program year. The first program year lasts nine months. All following program years last 12 months.

Vitality Health Review™ and Vitality Age™


The Vitality Health Review™ is an assessment that uses different health indicators to tell you your personalized Vitality Age™, an indication of your overall health. You need to complete the Vitality Health Review™ before you order your Garmin or Apple Watch reward and Weekly Active Rewards.


The Vitality Health Review™ asks questions about your lifestyle behaviours and health metrics, including height, weight, blood glucose (sugar) and blood pressure. If you don’t know all of these, you can say that you don’t have the answer and move on to the next question.


The Vitality Health Review™ takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, and it can be completed on the My Manulife Vitality website. Once you’re done, you’ll get your Vitality Age™ and health results comparing your values and inputs to medical recommendations. You’ll also get your Vitality Points™. You can now schedule your Vitality Check™ using your Exam One reward or order your wearable device (Garmin or Apple Watch reward).


You get 500 Vitality Points™ for completing the Vitality Health Review™, plus a bonus of 1,500 Vitality Points™ when you complete it within 90 days of signing up for the Manulife Vitality program.

You can get 500 points every year for completing the Vitality Health Review™, but the bonus of 1,500 points is only available in the first year.


Your Vitality Age™ is a health results report comparing your values and inputs to medical recommendations.


Your Vitality Age™ is an estimate of your lifestyle-adjusted age based on your everyday lifestyle choices. It is calculated using your answers to the Vitality Health Review™. Your Vitality Age™ may be higher or lower than your actual age, depending on whether your lifestyle is having a positive or negative effect on your overall health.


Your Vitality Age™ will change over time. The more healthy activities you complete, the lower your age will become.

Vitality Active Rewards™


Vitality Active Rewards™ is a physical activity program that is custom designed for you.


First, you need to activate Active Rewards™ in the app. Then, each Monday you’ll get a weekly target of Vitality Points™ to achieve by completing physical activity workouts throughout the week. Each time you reach this target, you get a reward or additional points that you can use towards your monthly Apple Watch payment. Only Standard or Advanced workouts count towards your weekly Active Rewards target. Light workouts do not count.


Targets are personalized to your current and past activity levels. If you’re less active, the Vitality Active Rewards™ program will encourage you to try a little harder through your personalized target. If you’re already very active, the program will suggest challenging and sustainable goals.


Earn points by completing Standard or Advanced physical activity workouts that can be verified through a mobile or fitness device. Other points do not count towards Vitality Active Rewards™.


Vitality Active Rewards™ is available to all Manulife Vitality members, but you must first complete your Vitality Health Review™.

Privacy and confidentiality


Manulife and The Vitality Group™ treat customer data security and privacy with a high level of respect and handle customer data with great care. The Manulife Vitality program Terms & Conditions, Data Consent and Privacy Policy assure you that the information you share with Manulife Vitality is kept confidential and fully secure. You can review these documents in the app at any time.


As part of our business operations, your personal information may be collected, stored, processed and transferred in and to the United States. Please note that privacy laws in such jurisdictions may differ from those of your jurisdiction, and that your personal information may be accessed by law enforcement authorities or the courts in such jurisdictions. You may obtain information and address questions about the privacy policies and practices relating to handling of your personal information outside of your jurisdiction by contacting The Vitality Group™ Privacy Officer. Yes. You must agree to the Manulife Vitality program Terms & Conditions, Data Consent and Privacy Policy to participate. Those Terms & Conditions clearly state that Manulife only has access to information about a member’s Vitality Points™ earned in the program and does not have access to health and lifestyle information you choose to submit to the program. Participation in the program is entirely voluntary and you are not required to participate in any element of the program if you don’t wish to.


Members agree through the Manulife Vitality program Terms & Conditions to the sharing of information with The Vitality Group™ for purposes of administering and improving the program. Once enrolled, you have absolute control over the information you choose to share with The Vitality Group™ for administration of the Manulife Vitality program.

For example, you can choose to share or stop sharing your individual health or lifestyle data, such as data from wearable devices (i.e., Apple Watch, Garmin, etc.) that can be used to seamlessly award Vitality Points™ for daily workouts. You can also optionally share biometric health data used for your Vitality Check™, which awards Vitality Points™ for completing the test and for having measures within healthy ranges. The Vitality Group™ is arms-length from Manulife and uses this data for administration of the Manulife Vitality program.


Members agree through the Manulife Vitality program Data Consent and Terms & Conditions to the sharing of information with The Vitality Group™ for purposes of administering and making improvements to the program. This includes any data you choose to send from wearable devices (i.e., Apple Watch, Garmin, etc.) that can be used to determine Vitality Points™ for daily workouts. This can also include any optional biometric health data used for the Vitality Check™ and other measures that earn Vitality Points™.

The Vitality Group™ is an independent company that has entered into a contract with Manulife to offer the Manulife Vitality program. The Vitality Group™ uses personal information it collects directly from members to maintain and administer the Manulife Vitality program, including determining reward and Vitality Status™ eligibility and program benefits, as well as for uses such as ongoing health and product development and research. The Vitality Group™ does not share individual health or lifestyle data with Manulife.


Manulife obtains aggregated, depersonalized data to help develop and optimize wellness strategies for our customers. However, Manulife does not have access to a member’s health or lifestyle information from the program. For example, Manulife will know the number of Vitality Points™ you earned to determine your Vitality Status™, but does not know how you earned those points. Health or lifestyle information may include any data you choose to send from wearable devices (i.e., Apple Watch, Garmin, etc.) that can be used to determine Vitality Points™ for daily workouts. This can also include any optional biometric health data used for the Vitality Check™ and other measures that earn Vitality Points™. Manulife may also get your Vitality Points™ and/or rewards earned to administer rewards and appropriately communicate to you your points and your reward premium savings.
